“Recycle today for a better tomorrow”

Our teachers gave a presentation of our Comenius Project to the students during their English classes on September 26th (European Day of Languages).

The work done was displayed on the Comenius notice boards around the school and in the language lab.

To celebrate the “World Animal Day” (October 4th)
we did different activities.

The kindergarten classes made pig and lion paper plate masks.

The first grades made a sea animal mural
with paper plates and newspapers.

The second graders made a shoe box toy that we call “Bean bag toss”. It is a game in which players take turns throwing recycled paper balls into the box.

The third and fourth graders made Tic-Tac-Toe board games with plastic bottle caps. Each class has its own boards and chips to play at break time on rainy days.

The fifth and sixth graders
made animal pencil holders with tetra bricks.

All these crafts were made in the English and Art classes.

It was decided that all classrooms have some containers in order to gather recycling materials.

The waste gathered to recycle is paper,
plastic and batteries.

Some containers for plastic bottle caps were placed
in the lobby of the infant school building and
underneath the stairwells of the
primary school building for charity purposes.

The children from each class are responsible for
recycling these materials weekly.
They take turns to carry the recycled materials to the
containers located outside the school.

Q U E S T I O N N A I R E S

At the beginning of the project we gave questionnaires to our students and their families about the application of the 3’Rs in this school, in their homes and in our town. The goal is to evaluate the increase of the students and families understanding of the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) by the end of the project. At the end of project, we have given them the same questionnaire to measure the effectiveness of it by comparing the results between the two questionnaires.

RECYCLING  DURING  CHRISTMAS
IN  CONSUEGRA

As the New Year approaches, each partner country chooses to represent one of their traditions with recycled materials.
In Spain, we have chosen to decorate our school for Christmas with recycled materials. We also enjoy preparing and sending Christmas cards to each of our Comenius partners.
Our English teachers wrote an article explaining all of the recycling activities that were performed in the school for Christmas and New Year’s.
This article appears in our digital newspaper for our Comenius Project.

The fifth graders visited the Energy Room and the Wind Farm in Villacañas with their teachers. The aims were to learn about different power plants and natural resources used in the production of electricity, to know what the different types of renewable energies are and value the importance of saving energy. An engineer showed us different renewable energy models in order to learn how each of them work. We ended our visit at the wind farm, where we were able to see real wind turbines.
